Director’s Report  - February 2004 Meeting

·       Monthly intakes for January (74) consisting of questions and complaints dealing with housing matters, termination, employment, questions of a general nature, and questions surrounding the upcoming Black History Month Program and Reception.

·       Black History Month 2004:  As of this report, all student entries are received/reviewed and selected for publication.  Executive Director, along with Commission Member Zan Liebowitz, and Emily Baier from RSVP provided assistance in reviewing the essays/poems.  All Auburn elementary schools participated with 192 entries posted inside the City Hall lobby during the month of February.  Publicity is complete.  Congratulatory preparations/items are complete for the program reception.  Lobby site is reserved along with proper notification of Maintenance Dept. and any needed items.  Awaiting a congratulatory citation from Assemblyman Finch’s office.  Suzanne is trying her best to provide this document for the Program.  Auburn Mayor Lattimore will present congratulatory letters to each of the published student writers during the program.

·       Monthly Budget:  Members please see monthly activity report attached.

·       Budget 2004-2005:  The next meeting scheduled for Human Rights is Tuesday, February 3 at 10 am with Commissioner Richardson, HR Director, and City Manager.  The proposed Human Rights operating budget will remain the same as last year.  This includes the addition of a part-time Para-Legal/Investigator for gathering data in the field.

·       Human Rights Scholarship:  On-going

·       Human Rights Awareness Advertising Campaign:  On-going

·       Juneteenth Day Presenter Search:  Ongoing.  As of this report, the Booker T. Washington Community Center is reserved for Tuesday, June 15 from 1- 3:00 pm.  Donna Dalton, Booking Agent for the Black Storytelling League, provided additional information concerning fees.  Hiring one Storyteller for 40 minutes = $150 plus mileage, totaling $250.  Clearly, more Storyteller’s incurs more expense.  We continue our contact and should know more about who may be available for the Juneteenth Day program.
