*  Began preparation for the Human Rights Awards Recognition Program  for October 2 from 6-8:00pm at the Schweinfurth Art Center.  Schedule Speaker:  Mickey Post.  Caterer: price quotes to review - higher end caterers may offer more elaborate fare, but, may also double our ticket prices affecting our attendance numbers.  Nominees sought through various media - newspaper, cable television.  A large mail effort (about 70) requesting nominees was sent to service organizations, various churches, and Auburn schools...
Commission Members discussed  alternative quotes and decided to remain with our usual reasonably priced format so that all members of the community will be able to participate in the program/reception.  An extra $1.60 will be added to the program ticket as a fundraiser toward  the Annual Human Rights Scholarship award for June 2003.

* TomatoFest information booth is reserved and requested for the same location as last year.  Additional promotional materials are ordered.  Newly designed PowerPoint "slide shows" are complete and available for awareness/educational purposes...Commission Youth Member sought through announcement at booth - info. and requirements posted... Commission Members used the T-Fest Volunteer Sign-up sheet to give their time for human rights awareness.  A finalized sign-up sheet will be completed at the September meeting.

Note:  Commission received a “thank you” note from Scholarship Recipient Lauren Evan.

Commission Members discussed the topic of renaming an Auburn School after Harriet Tubman.  All members agree that the honor should happen regardless of which building is selected.  Some members believe that the Genesee Elementary School is the best choice for renaming a building.  Further discussion followed.
