Minutes from April 4, 2001 meeting

Meeting called to order at 5:20 p.m. by Commissioner Richardson.

Minutes: Members reviewed and approved the Director
Director
        -March In-take total: 71….Complaints/questions dealt mainly with pregnancy discrimination, employment termination, landlord/tenant issues, “Read-Me-A-Story” program inquiries, requests for information, harassment, etc.  (Got a lot of calls on the “Read-Me-A-Story” program. Last reading at St. Joseph
Board Member
        -Completed organizational planning/scheduling of the “Read” program in conjunction with the Cityduring the one-month pilot
Board Member
        -Juneteenth Day planning continues. Auburn High School (M. Shosa) and Casey Park Elementary (B. Liberatore) have expressed interest in attending. Their concern is for the lack of funding for busing. They have been notified that the students may need to supply their own “funding” for field trips requiring transportation.

        -Human Rights Educational Ad Campaign is underway with nine retail ads scheduled (8” ads) to run through June 18…circulations reaches over 20,000 households…cost: $720.91. (Line 22 on Appropriations) Information deals with housing matters, harassment, employment issues, and disability.

        -Completed the first round of budget reviews. HR has asked for an additional position of a Para-legal. Salary is contingent on CSEA Union negotiations…next budget meeting will take place during the month of April.

        -Attending Treble Associates “Room Full of Sisters” program in honor of Women
Board Member
        -Attended Homsite Board Meeting (meets every third Wednesday of the month)…discussion of various issues pertaining to housing.

        -Checking price quotes for out-of-office printing of camera-ready annual report.

Board Member
        -Human Rights Scholarship Raffle…additional funds raised in-house from employee raffle sales. HR was invited to use the Homsite information booth at the Home Show (at Cayuga Community College) to raise additional funds Booth dates were March 30, 31, and April 1st.

New Business:

        -Request for inside stall at the Tomatofest…to play an educational tape.

        -NAACP Annual Awards, Friday, May 11th.

        -Social Justice next meeting April 24
