Meeting called to order at 5:15 p.m. by Commissioner.

*Monthly intakes (63) on various issues including: evictions, employment/termination, requests for legal assistance, renting, discrimination, Black History Month, etc….from individuals contacting the office in-person or via telephone.

*Michael Bersani, attorney and member from Geneva Human Rights Commission visited the Auburn HR office. Topics discussed included funding, community and political support, caseload, and awareness/out-reach-a comparison/analysis of both Commissions.

*Black History Month (February) planning underway. All Auburn public and parochial schools, (grades 2-8), are notified with details of the student essay contest. Student writers are invited to select from famous African-Americans or someone that they know personally (i.e. relatives, friends, neighbors, teachers, etc.) The 20 student essays that best describe their favorite person and why will be chosen by the Commission for publication in The Citizen and The Syracuse Newspapers during the month of February. A student Recognition Ceremony and Reception will be held on Wednesday, February 6th from 5:30

*Completed grant application for the Community Development Block Grant Program. The funding for the City

*HR Scholarship fundraising…ongoing.

*Attended United Way presentation. Information included the agencies, children, and adults who benefit our area from United Way funding assistance.

*Planning is underway for a Spring 2002 multicultural Storyteller Aunt Helen

*Attended the Salvation Army “Kettle Kick-off: fundraiser and signed up for a session of “bell ringing” to help raise funds for the Salvation Army and their efforts to help all individuals in need.

*AHR Food Pantry collection notices have been posted. All non-perishable food items are donated to the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry.

*AHR Commissioner via the AHR office has requested reinstatement of funds for the Spring 2002 multicultural storytelling program. Additionally awaiting a response on security measures for the office.
