Meeting called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Commissioner.
September minutes approved: Motion: Fr. Mack; Second: Liebowitz
*Discussion ensued over Intakes (61) on various issues including: evictions, security deposits, employment/termination, hiring discrimination, etc….from individuals contacting the office in-person or via the telephone…
*Discussed the Information Booth at Tomatofest (Sept. 8 & 9): Netted proceeds tallied at $247.00. Good response from the public and interest in informational items and multicultural goods. All culture globes sold. All "old-stock” t-shirts sold, too. Multicultural children
*Commission members are pleased with the Powerpoint presentation on Dell laptop…the presentation included general human rights information on housing, employment, harassment, etc..This along with the donated new TV/VCR (thank you Commission member Kent Brandstetter) children
*Human Rights Recognition Awards: Completed details of press releases and public service announcements and general notifications..all media are notified (newspaper, radio, television) plus a great number of churches, schools, service organizations, politicians (all City Council, County Legislators, Assemblyman Finch, Congressman Walsh, Governor George Pataki, etc.). Governor Pataki is sending a representative on his behalf from the New York State Commission on Human Rights (Rochester, NY). Assemblyman Finch is always supportive in issuing certificates of congratulations as is Congressman Walsh. Congressman Walshthe 7 food pantries being recognized plus gifts of “angels of kindness” in appreciation for the pantries tireless efforts.
*Educational Advertising campaign…ongoing..we may have to reduce our educational ad campaign due to a $900 budget encumberment from the 2002 budget instead of the designated budget of 2001…The weeks between the ad runs may be a little wider in order to save funds for throughout the year.
*Upcoming educational programs: Black History Month & Women
*New/Old business…Tabled until next meeting due to the upcoming Program.
