Meeting minutes from May 28, 2002

I. Approval of the Minutes

II. Planning & Development Committee
Committee Chair D. Lamb was absent, no report.

III. Marketing Committee
M. Vanek said the Committee had not met since the last Commission meeting. She circulated a copy of the Group Travel Leader publication geared towards tour operators. There is a two-page editorial about the Finger Lakes, including information about the Seward House and Harriet Tubman Home. Members of the Commission also placed a cooperative ad in this publication that ran on the same page as the article, with photos. M. Vanek said she would be happy to coordinate other cooperative ads in the future.

As for leads from ads, M. Vanek said for the period June 1
IV. Community Outreach Committee
Committee Chair E. McHugh was excused. J. Kline said in her absence that the Passport to History program is finished, and the prizes have been dispersed to the schools. E. McHugh will give a full report at the next meeting, she was short staffed that afternoon.

V. Quality Assurance Committee
Committee Chair W. DeWitt was absent, no report.

VI. Prison Committee
Committee Chair P. Wisbey was absent, no report.
VII. Other Business

M. Alberici gave a summary of activities for the upcoming Summer Celebration at Emerson Park on Sat., August 3rd from noon
M. Alberici said it is time to renew the service contract with the Cayuga County Convention & Visitors Bureau. J. Kline passed out copies of the contract draft for the Commission
M. Alberici said there is another contract that needs to be reviewed. Collin Sullivan has submitted a proposal for the Summer History Corps
M. Alberici said the Seward House needs three costumes, six days a week, for eight weeks. C. Sullivanoverlap. J. d
M. Alberici read an article about Pauline Johnson being honored at the Governor
M. Alberici said M. Vanek, S. Craner and J. Kline met to formulate a vision statement for the Commission. M. Alberici read the mission statement, and the drafted vision statement and asked for comments. The vision statement read, “To position Auburn as the destination of choice in the Finger Lakes through support and promotion of its history and culture.”  S. Marteney liked it, and thought it was a worthy goal to strive for. She didn
M. Vanek said she was at a Planning & Development meeting for the County Legislature and it was suggested that transportation to and from the sites be provided to visitors. Legislator DeRosa thought that perhaps funeral home staff could help drive the trolley, or whatever mode of transportation was offered. Commission members asked how the program could be financed, and would the County contribute. M. Vanek said at that time, a County contribution was not discussed.
