Meeting Minutes

1. Meeting was opened at 7:00 p.m. in the 1st floor caucus room of Memorial City Hall
In attendance were members: Ellen Clark, Peter Gabak, Mike Deming, Betty Lewis, Sam Swan and staff members Mike Long and Alicia McKeen. Absent: Jim Hutchinson, Max Champion
2. Approval of Minutes: Minutes unavailable for vote. Will be presented at next meeting.
3. Certificate of Appropriateness:
A. 144 South St. – Alan Shellenberger – rear addition - plans presented and reviewed by applicant. Sam – the garage had originally been designed as free standing – this shows no west elevation. The east elevation looks good. This is a better solution than previously shown.
It is noted that the size of the garage exceeds maximum allowed and an area variance will be required.
Motion to approve plan as presented made by Peter Gabak, seconded by Sam Swan. All members vote approval. Motion passed.
B. 19 Grover St. – Diane and Mike Long – fence. Applicant presents and reviews plans. Peter Gabak asks if finials will be added to the posts. Mike states they can be. Peter asks if it will be stained or painted (stained). Motion to accept made by Peter Gabak with the understanding the fence will be stained and finials added to the posts on School St. Mike Deming asks if a variance is required – a height variance will be required. Motion seconded by Ellen Clark. All members vote approval. Motion passed.
4. Other matters.
A. Peter asks about progress of the problem cases previously discussed. Mike Long asked Corporation Counsel Nancy Hussey to send a letter to 107 South St. concerning the illegal picket fence. Bob Flugh is the new committee member for 108 South St. and will be sent a letter concerning that fence. 102 South St. will have a letter sent concerning the windows and painting. Peter Gabak states he will call Nancy Hussey to discuss this matter.
B. Mike Long states there are 2 letters of support for the Osborne Library restoration possibly as a prison museum for the entire NY prison system. Mike Deming states a decision will need to be made whether to renovate or demolish. The building will not survive another winter.
4. Adjournment: Next meeting August 12, 2003 at Memorial City Hall at 7:00 p.m. – 1st floor caucus room. Motion to adjourn made by Mike Deming, seconded by Peter Gabak. All members vote approval.
