Work Session Meeting

Roll Call – Councilors Graney, McNabb, Smith, Brower and Mayor Quill, present.  

Staff Members Present – Mark Palesh, City Manager; Michele Godfrey, Deputy City Clerk; Lisa Green, Comptroller; John Rossi, Corporation Counsel; Jennifer Haines, Planning Director; Crystal Purcell, Planning & Economic Development Program Manager; Michael Hammon, Fire Chief.

All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Mayor Quill asks for a moment of silence.  

Mayor Quill opened the Public Hearing regarding the CDBG 2008-2009 Action Plan.

Public to be Heard regarding the CDBG 2008-2009 Action Plan

§       Gloria Griffin, Executive Director for the Cayuga Seneca Community Action Program.  Ms. Griffin spoke to the benefits of the CDBG program. Her agency plans on using its allocation to help the homeless and pay for field trips for preschool children at its center.

Mayor Quill announced that Senator Nozzolio held a press conference today at Auburn Memorial Hospital announcing the reversal of the Berger Commission recommendation to close the AMH Maternity Ward.

Work Session

·       Lisa Green – Financial Update.  Ms. Green provided Council with a handout regarding the current budget summary & forecast.  She reviewed the projections with Council.
·       Jennifer Haines and Crystal Purcell – Presentation of CDBG 2008-2009 Action Plan.  Ms. Purcell gave a power point presentation of the CDBG 2008-2009 Action Plan.  Council asked Ms. Purcell questions regarding the plan and Ms. Purcell and Ms. Haines responded.

§       Sally Piazza, 6 N. Fulton Street – Ms. Piazza told Council she would like to see more CDBG funds to be used towards economic development of businesses.

Other Business - Councilor Brower asked the City Manager if the city would be able to apply for the Restore NY Grant in the next round.  The City Manager told council that the city will apply in the next round and the proposed grant will be brought in front of council in a few months.
