.Auburn Municipal Civil Service
Meeting –1/6/05    Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 11:00 am.   Sec. Fulton took the roll. Present was Comm. Welch, Comm.Camardo and Comm. Brennan. Also present was Gary Giannotta, Police Chief and Tom Leone, Corporation Counsel.
Approve minutes
Motion made to approve minutes of the 12/2/04 meeting. Motion to approve made by Comm. Camardo and seconded by Comm. Brennan. Motion carried 3-0.
New Business
1.      Review roster and establish eligible list for the exam for Planner # 68-981. Motion to accept mad e by Comm. Camardo, seconded by Comm. Brennan. Motion carried 3-0.
2.      Review roster and establish eligible list for the exam Civil Service Clerk # 68-429. Motion to accept made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch. Motion carried 3-0.
3.      Review roster and establish eligible list for the exam Senior Clerk # 68-707. Motion to accept made by Comm. Welch and seconded by Comm. Camardo. Motion carried 3-0.
4.      Review roster and establish eligible list for the promotional exam Senior Clerk
     # 77-002.Motion made by Comm. Welch to accept, motion seconded by Comm.  
       Brennan. Motion carried 3-0.
        
The meeting packet will be mailed to the Commissioners on the Friday prior to the meeting day to give the Commissioners the proper time to review items on the agenda.
Old Business
1.Police Dept.
Discussion of backgrounds checks to be completed on the successful candidates from the recently held Police Officer exam which  was held in December 2004.
Comm. Brennan and Comm. Camardo stated that they fell the background checks should be returned to the Civil Service Dept. as the Police to the checks per permission given them by this Commission. They fell that it is the Commissions   responsibility to do the checks and we give that permission to the Police Dept as that the checks are actually property of this Commission.
Also, complete zones of scores will have backgrounds checks done at the same time. Comm. Camardo stated that he feels the background checks should be kept in the personnel files of the Civil Service Office as is the data of current employees and handled with the same amount of security.
Motion made to table discussion of backgrounds checks until the next meeting.

A letter will be sent to the City Manager from Bill Fulton requesting the installment of a safety buzzer for the Civil Service Office . The buzzer will ring in the Codes Dept and alert that dept. of any need for security or help in the Civil Service office by the personnel in that office.
Motion to go into Executive session made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch to hold a discussion whether to remove a candidate from an eligible list.
Motion to return to regular session was made by Comm. Camardo and seconded by Comm. Welch. Motion passed 3-0.

Since there has been no contact from this individual and the Police Chief has documentation of his facts that there was reason to terminate this individual a motion was made to remove this particular candidate from the eligible list for Parking Meter
Attendant, part time. Motion made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch. Motion carried 2-1 as Comm. Camardo voted not to remove this candidate.
2.Public Works Dept.
Discussion of the residency requirement for the upcoming exam for Director of Recreation was held. The Commissioners opinion is that the  residency  requirement remain as stated on the announcement; for 30 days prior to the date of the written exam
candidates must reside in the City  of Auburn.
