 Meeting –  01 /02/2003   Minutes
Chairman Welch called the meeting to order at 11:00am.  Sec. Fulton took the roll.  Present was
Comm. Welch. Comm. Camardo and Comm. Brennan. Also present Fire Chief Quill, Terry Winslow, Fire Lieutenant and Jeff Dygert, Firefighters union representative.

New Business
1. Fire Department
Discussion held about the upcoming promotional exams for Fire Captain and Fire Lieutenant. Chief Quill requesting that the special requirement of the certification for N.Y.S. Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, Basic Training Program be deleted from the Fire Lieutenant Fire Captain exams. Both the Fire Chief and Lt.. Winslow explained that the code inspections are done by the Fire  Safety  Inspector and also the housing code inspectors in the Code Enforcement Dept which is under the Direction of the Planning and Economic Development Dept. Fire prevention is are the only type inspections still done by the Fire Officers. Dept. Motion made by Comm. Welch and seconded by Comm. Brennan that the requirement be deleted as long as there is no objection from the City Manager. Motion carried 3-0. Special meeting is to be held on January 9, 2003. Also the Fire Chief is requesting that the minimum qualifications be changed for the exams. Motion to table any further discussion  until  January 9, 2003  meeting. Motion made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Welch. Motion carried 3-0.   Letter to be sent to Mr. Salomone  to present his view to this Commission  at that  meeting.
Instructions that the Secretary contacted other cities and ask them for their most recent announcements for their Fire Captains and Lieutenants as to compare minimum qualifications   through out the State. Also West Middle School gymnasium is to be reserved to hold the Fire exams on March 8, 2003.

2. Auburn Housing Authority
Motion made to approve the roster and eligible list for the Tenant Relations Assistant exam #61-604. Motion made by Comm. Brennan and seconded by Comm. Camardo. Motion carried 3-0.

Personnel changes reviewed and approved .

Motion to adjourn made by Comm. Welch, seconded by Comm. Brennan. Meeting adjourned at  12:00pm.

Also, after the January 9th 2003 meeting this Commission will take Arthur L. Lee to celebrate his retirement as secretary to the Commission.
