Cemetery Commission
Meeting Minutes
February 16, 2007 – 3:00PM
Present: Thomas McNabb, City Councilor; Jerry DelFavero, Superintendent of Public Works; Edward Willis, Elaine Hutson, Bill Jacobs, John Langham, Lisa Greene, Comptroller; Debby McCormick, City Clerk/Commission Secretary.
John Langham agreed to serve as Chair for the Commission.
Mr. Jacobs asked Jerry DelFavero to look into a problem that was brought to his attention regarding a grave.
There was a brief discussion regarding the City offering cremation as an option.
It was agreed that the Commission would recommend that fees for services and lots should be increased during the 2007-08 budget.
Recommendations:
Single Grave - $500
Grave Openings - 500
Weekends & Holidays - 675
Lots, Adult 500
All others remain the same.
Ms. Greene reported there was approximately $10,000 in the perpetual care account.
Councilor McNabb suggested prioritizing issues at the Cemetery.
It was agreed that Mr. DelFavero would follow up on grant funding that the City is anticipating for installation of a fence and flagpole at the North St. Cemetery. Mr. Del Favero also reported that 16 trees were planted at Soule last year and more would be done this year as funds allow.
The Committee all agreed that the Public Works staff was doing a great job.
Before adjourning it was agreed that at the next meeting the following topics would be addressed.
§ Memorial Garden
§ New Section – number of graves, singles, doubles.
§ Discuss how people that are purchasing lots and requesting services are handled.
