CEMETERY COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
November 9, 2004


Members present:  John Salomone, City Manager; Bea O’Hora, Comptroller; Elaine Hudson, Fort Hill Cemetery, Jerry DelFavero, Superintendent of Public Works; Debby McCormick, City Clerk; Bill Jacobs, City Counselor; Kent Brandstetter.  

Absent:  John Langham, Langham Funeral Home


Jerry DelFavero updated committee and discussed the following:
·       Rate increases for sites and services
·       Vault in completely done
·       Jerry will get some roads done through Road program in 2005

Bill Jacobs and Jerry DelFavero met with a representative of the NYS Cemetery Association to discuss the possibility of the City offering crematorium services.  Committee discussed the Technology Park area as a location to maximize methane gas use. The committee discussed many issues relating to offering this service.  Mr. DelFavero reported that facilities would have to be no larger than a 2 car garage.  Mr. DelFavero and Mr. Jacob’s agreed to go to Rochester to see what they do and report back.  John Langham has the name of the Rochester Crematory.

Kent Brandstetter suggested the City could be a location for a Veterans Cemetery, something he read the state is looking for.

Kent Brandstetter commented on how nice the North St. Cemetery looks without the fence.  Jerry estimated it will be $9000 for a new fence.  

Many committee members commented on how nice Soule Cemetery is looking now.  Jerry credited Chris Diehl and Paul Miner for their work.

Mr. Jacobs commented on the vault door and how nice it looks.

Elaine Hudson reported that she and Susan Corcoran are working together on records of cemetery.

Committee agreed to meet on Tuesday February 8, 2005 – City Manager’s Office.  Topic would be feasibility of a crematorium so that it could be included in the 05-06 budget if needed.
