Selectmen Meeting Minutes –November 6th, 2006

Present: R. Haggett, and B. Pratt
Also in attendance: W. Prokop, S. Nelkens, R. Edwards, P. Vasques

The selectmen opened the meeting at 7:00 P.M.

The selectmen approved the minutes of the October 30th meeting.

The selectmen received a response from Chief Feyrer regarding S. Nelkens concerns regarding the use of the Thermo Imager. They will review it when the Chairman is back from vacation. S. Nelkens also asked that the minutes of October 30th be corrected to state a “letter” and not a “note” received from S. Nelkens. The selectmen made the change.

The selectmen met with R. Edwards and P. Vasques regarding the proposed budget for the Planning Board. The budget is substantially increased due to the amount of sub-division activity and the need for up-dating Town ordinances and to establish sound policies for the control of growth. This increase will have to be justified to the voters and the need and benefits clearly shown. The selectmen will review this again before month end.

The selectmen met with W. Prokop to review the administrative budgets. Most line items will have little if any increases. However, there are substantial increases in Health Insurance and Pension cost. The health insurance has a projected increase of 12% and the retirement contribution (mandated by state law) will have an increase of over 20%. In addition there will be substantial increases in utilities, and heating cost. Selectman Haggett suggested that the legal budget be kept at the current level, instead of the planned reduction.

The selectmen reviewed general correspondence and approved payroll and A/P for the week.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for 11/13/06 and they will be reviewing the budget plans of the Building Inspector, Conservation, Welfare, and Misc. On November 20th they will review Fire, ambulance, and Park and Recreation Departments.
