Minutes
The minutes from the June 8, 2017 meeting were approved with corrections.
Memorial Park
Tennis Court Repairs. Repairs should be completed this week.
Skatepark. Mitch Reynolds is taking leadership of the skate event to be held in memory of Scotty Dunlap on August 5. Screws have been removed from some of the ramps, apparently by vandals, and these will be replaced and tightened as needed before the event. Boundless Garments and Eastern Boarder have agreed to sponsor the event, and they are planning to have live music at the Bandstand. They will also collect donations for a new stone bench memorial to Scotty.
Bandstand. We thank Ideal Compost for free delivery of the mulch for the bandstand flower bed. The spire is done and Chris has primed and painted it. The floor boards have buckled up again in two spots. They need to be removed and shaved as they are too close together. Celeste will mark the two buckled areas with Hazard tape. Tod Bryer said he’s too busy and recommended Cutter Construction to do the floor work.
Antrim In The Evening. The first Antrim In The Evening concert was moved indoors due to threatening weather. For the next one, there will be swing dancing lessons before the concert, starting at 5 pm.
Maintenance/Other. Celeste pulled up some more poison ivy, as part of the ongoing struggle to rid the park of invasives and nuisance plants. The Teddy Bear Picnic was well attended and the Fairy Houses turned out well. The park seems to be getting good use. Vandals seriously damaged the two park benches. One was repaired and the other has been taken to the Highway Garage. Jim thinks they may be able to fix it, and they will use longer lag bolts to hold them down.
Shea Field
ConVal agreement. There’s no word on the agreement, but Celeste has received the ConVal sports schedule for fall.
Maintenance. Pete is still doing the mowing. JT has learned how to mow the field, but is now busy at the beach. Once camp is over, JT will take over work on the field. Low spots need to be filled and a couple more parking spots can be made. James Stacy completed the pesticide application.
Gregg Lake
Dog swim area. Someone went to the Selectboard meeting and complained that the boulders were dangerous. Many others have said how much they like the new setup.
Other. Celeste is still working on getting more sand for the volleyball court. People have pulled down many of the signs about beach regulations. Other signs have been posted for parties, and fireworks debris was left all over the beach and in the water, which took the beach staff several hours to clean up. Live fireworks were also found. The guilty parties have been identified and Celeste and Donna are working on notifying them. Donna will look into whether we have a fireworks ordinance.
Town Gym
Floor. Tim Grossi has agreed that ConVal will screen and recoat the gym floor every year, with Antrim paying $1200 every other year.
ConVal agreement. Celeste will forward the draft agreement to Donna and Rich Cahoon.
Recreation Department
Before and After School Club. The Grapevine has received their license and are insured, and the BASC staff are off of the town payroll. They will still use the Rec Dept space.
Update. The Rec Dept is understaffed for the duration of summer camp. People are serving in double capacities and nobody can afford to get sick. On some days, the beach simply will not be staffed, and there is not enough staff to do much Lake Hosting. Celeste is still looking into disc golf and a pump track.
The next regularly scheduled Parks & Recreation Commission Meeting will be Thursday, August 10th at 7:00 pm at the Rec Office.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 pm.
